View Article  Watching the Braves in Curacao
Pictured below is what I looked at during most of the fourteen inning marathon on Friday night, which was also the last night of my weeklong vacation to Curacao with my wife. I could go on for a long time about what a beautiful and fun place this is, but I realize this isn't a travel blog it's a METS blog, so I'll get right to the point: this bartender, named Rodger, played little league with Andruw Jones. If you weren't aware, Andruw Jones is pretty much the most famous export from the charming little carribean island that isn't a sweet blue liquor. And according to my informal polling, he's pretty damn popular back home. I met guys who are Braves fans, Yankees fans, and yes, one Mets fan, but they all root for Andruw Jones when he steps up to bat. According to Rodger, Jones played shortstop, was very talented, and was very quiet and mellow.
Another guy I met, a bartender named Edsel, said his girlfriend's family lived down the street from Jones' family and they described him as a nice guy who came home often and was active in his community.
So what's all this love for Andruw Jones on a Mets blog? Personally, he's the kind of player I'd really like if he took that damn Braves logo off his chest. Until he does that, he SUCKS.
