As Julio Franco was announced as pinch hitter to face Roberto Hernandez, from under the overhang that thousands of the Mets faithful had huddled under to escape from what should have been called a rainout, we wondered, was this the oldest matchup ever? The 41 years of Roberto Hernandez vs. the 47 years of Julio Franco? That's 88 years of baseball there folks.



Now, can anyone think of an older matchup? Perhaps Orosco's 46-year-old left arm had to try to strike out some 42-year-old DH?
